The artists behind Rainbow City at Caddo Common are kicking off several weeks of high-flying fun on Friday, Oct., 25 at artspace, 708 Texas St., and all are invited to attend. The FriendsWithYou Artist Collective of Arturo Sandoval III and Samuel Borkson are working with artspace staff to create a world of brilliant colors and geometric patterns. Air-filled sculptures will be center stage of the exhibit which will also include bronze sculptures, digital designs, and films. The exhibit will remain up through Dec. 21. The FriendsWithYou exhibit is a great way to learn more about Rainbow City at Caddo Common. Rainbow City takes all the ingredients of the smaller inside exhibit and blows them up into a large, colorful outdoor experience of 35 air-filled sculptures, some soaring 50 ft. into the sky.
Rainbow City will open Saturday, November 2, 2019 in Caddo Common at 869 Texas Avenue in Shreveport with a parade. Everyone is invited to participate- to walk, skate, bike or drive the several blocks from artspace in the 700 block of Texas Street to the park. Show up at 10 am to make something to wear in the parade, which will start at 12:30 and roll at 1 pm.
In the lead will be five Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade-type inflatables and balloons ‘Rainball King’ and ‘Gumball’ will take point. The fun doesn’t stop with the parade. There will be loads of programming in the park through December 8, both free and ticket-based. Events will include Walking Wednesdays, Drum Circle Thursdays, Food Truck Court lunches and suppers, Friday Night Dance Parties, Sunday Brunches, a Weekend Arts Market and special events.
